Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update in Berlin and Germany

The first positive case of the new type of corona virus was confirmed in Berlin on Sunday(01.03.2020). The sick person is treated in isolation at the Charité CVK. The responsible medical officer has started to follow up the contact persons.

The Senate Department for Health together with Charite, informed at a press conference informed that there is a first confirmed case of an infection with the new corona virus in Berlin. The patient is treated in isolation in the medical clinic with focus on infectiology and pneumology at the CVK. His condition is stable.

The patient was admitted to a Charité emergency room on Sunday with neurological symptoms. In the course of the diagnosis, he was tested for influenza. Since last week, the Charité has been carrying out tests for the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 as standard in all suspected cases of influenza. After a positive result, the patient was admitted to the hospital and treated in isolation. The authorities have been informed. The responsible medical officer has started to follow up the contact persons. A number of the patient’s contact persons as well as the emergency room staff are isolated at home.
